A City's Song
St. Louis Abbey
500 S. Mason Road, Creve Coeur, Missouri 63141
The Gregorian hymn Urbs Beata Ierusalem,
sung in contrasting arrangements by Dufay,
Palestrina and
Alphons Diepenbrock, punctuates an impressive, new Mass setting,
named in honor of his home city of
Riga by Latvian
composer Ugis Praulins.

A Mentor's Memory
560 Music Center
560 Trinity Avenue, University City, Missouri 63130
Tributes to teachers in the Renaissance and more recent past
compliment this scholarly setting. Josquin laments Ockeghem, and Gombert
commemorates Josquin, while Byrd celebrates Thomas Tallis. Both C. V.
Stanford and Ralph Vaughan Williams pay their respects to their
colleague and mentor Hubert Parry with the expansive Gloria for two
choirs and hushed Prayer to the Father of Heaven.

A King's Christmas
St. Vincent de Paul Chapel
20 Archbishop May Drive, Saint Louis, Missouri 63119
We recreate the traditional Nine Lessons & Carols
broadcast each Christmas Eve from
King’s College,
Cambridge, with
music commissioned for that occasion by Arvo Pärt,
Peter Sculthorpe,
and Peter Maxwell Davies. Traditional carols complete this program
performed in an appropriately collegiate setting.

Concert IV:
Sunday, February 19, 2012
A Chorus Carouse (sold out)
The Schlafly Tap Room
2100 Locust Street, Saint Louis, Missouri 63103
We explore the many composers who have sung the praises of beer, from
Schubert and Kodaly to Holst and Poulenc, and now add two frothy works:
Songs of Ale, specially written for this concert by the
distinguished British composer (and beer enthusiast) Robert Walker, and
Paul Crabtree’s Suite from The Simpsons.

A Traveler's Tale
First
Presbyterian Church of Kirkwood
100 East Adams Avenue, Kirkwood, Missouri 63122
Exotic locales, from
Iceland and the French Alps to Italian lakes and submerged Irish
villages, are evoked by a dazzling array of composers. Judith Bingham
and Carl Orff balance Thomas Weelkes and Johannes Brahms, and a
commission from Sydney
and Gabriel Guillaume celebrates their recent return to their Haitian
homeland.
