Martha Shaffer
Accompanist
Martha Shaffer began piano lessons as a preschooler, and by age twelve was
accompanying school and church choirs. She served as college organist for
three years during her undergraduate studies at Albright College in Reading, PA.
Later, in South Carolina, she returned to formal lessons, studying organ and
music theory with Dr. Edmund Shay at Columbia College. As a member of the
American Guild of Organists, she successfully completed requirements for both the
Service Playing and Colleague certificates. She has composed several anthems,
and her carol If Ye Would Hear The Angels Sing was recorded by the Chamber Chorus
on the CD A Chamber Christmas.
For seven years Martha served as Assistant Organist at St. Peter's Episcopal Church
in Ladue; she is currently playing at First Church of Christ, Scientist in St. Louis.
She has been accompanist for the Chamber Chorus since 1991.
